Art classes

Red Gate Art Studio Art classes CATER FOR young people, IN upper PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL YEAR LEVELS AND YOUNG ADULTS.

THE Art classes are a series of directed art sessions with Marie Louise Egar, an experienced teacher and artist.

I am enrolling Upper Primary Students (from School Level: Year 5/Age 10 up), Secondary Students and Young Adults in 2022. This will be my focus going forward. *

Art classes for young people are offered on, Wednesday afternoons and Wednesday evenings, Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings and Saturday afternoons.

These fun and instructive art classes run for 2 hrs per Session in an 8Week Block/Term are a perfect way to add extra-curricular art classes to your child's schooling. See below for the perfect class for your child.

Through explicit teaching students examine the Principles of Design, Value, Colour and Texture to further their skills and expand their knowledge in these areas using a variety of tools and mediums.

Students are encouraged to experiment with art to expand their knowledge of mediums and techniques. They are encouraged to play and investigate colour and texture, using a wide range of materials including acrylic paint, pencil, pastel, charcoal, and mixed media…. (And Oil paints for Secondary Students who choose this medium).

Students explore ideas through creative thinking.

Exposure to both contemporary and traditional artists means that students gain an understanding not only of the process of making art, but also of the broader scope of art and its important place in the world.

*For those parents who have enquired about classes for younger students prior to 2022 I apologise for any inconvenience. I made this decision at the beginning of 2022.

Apprentice Artist Classes

If you are an Apprentice Artist you are enthusiastic to learn about art.

  • You look at paintings and drawings by different artists, artists who are alive today and great artists who lived long ago.

  • You investigate different subjects and styles of painting and drawing.

  • You explore the arrangement of shapes in a picture, the differences between things, the differences between light and dark, what your eye notices as you look around a picture and all about colour and texture.

  • You share and talk about your artwork with other Apprentice Artists.

  • It is important for you to belong to a group of people who share the same excitement about artmaking.

  • Exploring the Principles of Design, Value and Colour becomes part of your art practise.

  • Problem solving and making decisions are also fundamental to the process of giving personal expression to your work.

  • Clarifying, discussing and sharing of artwork with your fellow apprentices is part of gathering knowledge, insight and the opinions of others and the being part of a group with a shared vision.
